I love gel printing

Welcome to my first blog post, I honestly have no idea what to write in this so I’ll just keep it as a catch up point to show what i’m working on at the moment. A digital illustration sketchbook of sorts. This feels a bit ridiculous and a little cringe but i’m gonna pretend it doesn’t and ignore that.

So my tutor Ian told me to get a gel printer, a big thick silicone sheet that you can print from magazine and other images and it looks so cool. I’ve been testing and playing around with this technique for my current uni project, making illustrations and stuff for my cousins band, and I love it.

My kitten also loves it, sticking her tiny paws all in my black acrylic paint. Such a good studio assistant. She also loved to chew on my magazine pages, so some prints did not come out the best, but i’ll let her off. Little cat still has no official name, the family as divided as we were when we adopted her. I’ve taken to call her Puss Cat, she seems to like that one the most.

Anyways, back to the art stuff. My editorial work for uni is coming together, this week i’m going to get one of my friends to be a hand model for the final illustration, so whichever unlucky bugger answers the phone first will be picked. That should be all wrapped up by the end of the week, so I can focus more on producing work for the band, that is if my cousin ever answers me lol.

I’m actually really happy with how the prints are coming out so far, I do need to do some more experiments to see how much paint etc I need to get stronger prints, and how many layers I can do before it just becomes a blob of paint. But yeh, give it a go, just make sure your cat doesn’t stand in the paint and trail little kitty paw prints over your desk like mine did.
